ABOUT US

WHAT IS LYDR?

LYDR is a vocal ensemble project aiming to develop new methods in the field between voice work, singing, storytelling, theater and movement.

Our goal is to find new ways for individual professional performers to communicate, create and grow both as individuals, and as a collective ensemble.

We want to create performances in a genre-open context, and welcome professional performers of all styles, gender orientations, cultural and creative backgrounds.

Our goal is to develop something new. A new way of performing and growing together, with one thing in mind: to create exhilarating meetings with the audience and create new and exciting pieces of art.

SØLVI ELISE HALVORSEN

SINGER, VOCAL COACH & MUSICAL DIRECTOR

Sølvi Elise wants to spread the word that singing is something that should be for everyone to enjoy. She is constantly developing her own teaching and singing to make singing and voice training as accessible to everyone as possible. Sølvi Elise is a huge voice nerd, and is uncompromising when it comes to the need for excellent vocal health for every singer, no matter style. She believes that the key to success as a singer comes from exploring your own voice and all the different sounds it can produce, and wants everyone to stop focusing on singing pretty, and start singing interesting. That’s where the fun starts, and singing should be fun!

Sølvi Elise holds a BA (2003) and MA (2007) in musicology from the Universities in Oslo and Uppsala, with a master thesis focusing on vocal techniques in contemporary styles. She holds a teacher training degree (PPU) in vocal pedagogy from Barratt Dues Music Academy (2016). She is an Estill Voice Master Trainer (2012), and has also done further teacher training work in contemporary styles at the University College of Music Education in Stockholm (2009).

Sølvi Elise has worked as a vocal coach and singing teacher for professionals, amateurs and voice students since 2005. She has a specialisation in contemporary styles and techniques, but does not shy away from voice production from folk and classical music from all around the globe. As a singer she has been performing everything from Norwegian folk music, through jazz to pop and R&B.

As a 14-year-old, she started conducting her first choir, and has worked with ensembles, big and small, both a cappella choirs and with bands since then. She is currently the musical director for two choirs in Oslo, Akerselva Kvinnekor and Oslo Reiselivskor, and she works as a singing teacher at the department for musical theatre at NSKI University College in Oslo. In her spare time she likes to sew up a storm, and mix delicious cocktails with old-timey ingredients.
